Plainfield, NJ – Crescent Concerts presents the forty-third annual Yuletide by Candlelight on December 13 at 5 p.m. in the historic Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield. Artistic Director F. Allen Artz, III, will lead the Crescent Singers in a free concert entitled There is No Rose to celebrate the wonder of Jesus’ birth. The sanctuary will be illuminated only by candles, and the audience members will be invited to join in many of the carols during this unique Crescent Concerts tradition.
The Crescent Singers will open with a 20th century setting of the words to the 15th century carol, "There is no Rose of Such Virtue." Following that, the choir will present music from the Renaissance to the present -- with such offerings as Vaughan Williams’s arrangement of the cheery Gloucestershire Wassail to Scriven's hauntingly beautiful take on an American poem, "Christ the Appletree." The audience will participate in the singing of several medleys of favorite Christmas Carols, including "Oh Come all Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night," with Allen Artz at the Adams organ. No tickets are required for this concert since it is a free musical gift to the community.
General admission is free. Call 908-756-2468 or visit www.crescentconcerts.org for more information about this and upcoming concerts.
