Plainfield, NJ — Spring begins on March 19, and the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra welcomes its arrival with “Spring Festival” on March 21, 2020, featuring PSO concertmaster Evelyn Estava as violin soloist. Under the direction of Charles Prince, Estava and the orchestra will perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 in B flat Major, Op. 38, Spring Symphony.

“We’re delighted to showcase our concertmaster Evelyn Estava at this concert,” said Prince, PSO’s music director.  “Evelyn is recognized as a top performing artist in her native Venezuela, and she has made many appearances with orchestras in Europe and North and South America. This program was chosen with her in mind.”

Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 (his only violin concerto) is a three-movement virtuosic work for violin and orchestra known for its lyrical melodies and rich orchestration that are combined with a sense of grandeur and Hungarian folk rhythms.

Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 in B flat Major, Op. 38 “Spring Symphony” was written in an astonishing burst of creative energy over four days in January 1841.  This was the happiest time of his life- settled in a new and happy marriage, in good health and finally writing the symphonic music he had long aspired to.

Celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year, the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra is New Jersey’s oldest community symphony and the third oldest continuously operating community symphony in the United States.  Under the direction of Charles Prince, the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra represents the highest standard in musical excellence in programs designed to educate and uplift local audiences. Funding has been made possible in part by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Quirky lawyers as protagonists make for fun reading if they are three-dimensional and believable. Take Mickey Haller, “the Lincoln lawyer,” from Michael Connelly’s series.
