The Best Sad Day

When you don’t have to adhere to a train schedule or work a nine to five job, it’s easier to make spontaneous vacation plans.

Since I was braving a trip back to Maine in June to mark one year since the accident, I decided to add an extra week to my excursion.  I would knock off two more states in my bucket list quest to hike a part of the Appalachian Trail in every state.

Freeholders Honor Elizabeth Police Officers Who Rescued Boy Struck By Train

July 22, 2017

ELIZABETH, NJ - Two city police officers who rescued a 13-year-old boy struck by a freight train were honored Thursday night by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Elizabeth Police Officers Eric Santiago Gora and Luciano Nicolas Porto responded to Franklin Street on May 11 to find the boy going into shock with an amputated leg.

“We have to also acknowledge that there are ...

New York Jets Helipad Approved for Training Center in Florham Park

July 20, 2017

FLORHAM PARK, NJ- Back in 2013, the New York Jets submitted a plan to build a helipad at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center (AHJTC) in Florham Park. That plan drew the ire of residents in Florham Park and Madison, where many community residents raised concerns over the noise and the potential for accidents. The plan was subsequently withdrawn in July of that year.

The original New York Jets ...

"Shall We Begin?" Winter Comes to Westeros on Game of Thrones

July 19, 2017

Considering Game of Thrones fans waited 448 days for the premiere of the shortest season to date, many were disappointed by the anticlimactic nature of Sunday’s episode. But the way I see it, Ed Sheeran cameo aside, the show writers did everything right: enemies were destroyed, crucial information was revealed and the stage was set for absolute chaos in Westeros.

For the first time ...

Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard

Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard (Henry Holt and Co., 2013)

As a student of history, I don't know why I thought that reading Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard would be any more satisfying than their previous two publications, Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy. Having now finished the rapid read, I would put the O'Reilly/Dugard books in ...

'Skeleton Crew' hits home

UNION, NJ – Premiere Stages, in its quest for new, richly layered plays, is now presenting “Skeleton Crew” by Dominique Morrisseau.

The playwright had her play “Follow Me to Nellie’s” work shopped at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center in Connecticut several years ago. That was followed by s fine production at the Kean University ...
