Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church Celebrates Black History Month with Spirituals Concert
In recognition of and in celebration of Black History Month, Plainfield’s historic Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church held a Spirituals Concert Sunday, February 23rd. The beautiful sanctuary resounded with song and music, beginning with the audience joining in singing a powerful rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. Concertgoers were then treated to the Crescent Avenue Chancel Choir and the Cab Calloway Chamber Singers performing the Moses Hogan composition “Hear my Prayer” as interpretive dancer Lia Haynes captivated the audience with her expressive movements.
Soloists Augustine Mercante, Madison Washington and Melanie Campbell repeatedly brought the crowd to their feet with their heartfelt renditions of classics such as “This Little Light of Mine”, “Every Time I Feel the Spirit” and “Wade in De Water”. “Songs of the Struggle” was beautifully performed on piano by beloved local musician Quinn DeGeneste II. The evening’s concert conductor and accompanying musician was Cameron Kuzepski, Crescent Avenue’s incredibly gifted and talented Director of Music.
Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, 716 Watchung Avenue, Plainfield is a community of faith dedicated to the service of God, the nurture of all who enter here, and service to the whole community.
