PLAINFIELD, NJ - Close out the last weekend of the month at one of these events held in and around Plainfield.


The Plainfield Public Library will host a Tri-County History Fair where residents from Plainfield, Middlesex and Somerset can learn about local history in the surrounding Plainfield area.  The Drake House will have a table that highlights a variety of history cards and postcards.  There will also be a showing of a home movie of William H. Perrine, New Jersey's oldest Civil War Veteran who died December 11, 1945, at the age of 100 years old.  From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 800 Park Avenue.

Members from the Plainfield Police Division will be on hand to talk to residents about safety issues. Get tips on how to reduce your risk of becoming a victim at this free event.  Stop by the lot at Park Avenue and Randolph Road, across from Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, from 12 to 4 p.m.  Refreshments and food will be available.

Purge those closets.  The Queen City Academy Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is hosting a clothing drive, accepting gently used clothing items. Proceeds will help pay for a variety of activities for QCA Scholars. Acceptable items include clothing and shoes, linens, accessories like belts and purses, toys, CDs and DVDs.  Drop off at 815 West 7th Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Don't miss the Netherwood Heights Neighbors educational house tour that will feature Plainfield’s Netherwood Heights neighborhood, featuring historic homes built as early as 1894.  The Netherwood Heights Neighbors Association organization is sponsoring a tour of seven historic Plainfield homes, built from 1894 through 1929. Celebrate the 150th anniversary of Plainfield’s incorporation by visiting some of its earliest residences, and learning how the city transformed from a rural village to a fashionable suburb for America’s post-Civil War elite.  Tickets ($35 in advance, $40 at event) are available online and at The Coffee Box (1359 South Ave) or Swain’s Gallery (703 Watchung Avenue) in Plainfield. Note that Swain’s Gallery can only accept cash or a check made payable to “Netherwood Heights Neighbors”.  The tour starts at the registration tent located at 551 Belvidere Avenue.
