The show called Cafè PAAAS is moving to a virtual platform because of the COVID-19 Pandemic
PLAINFIELD, NJ — A “CALL” for P.A.A.A.S. artists to participate in a “LIVE” online show on Friday, May 1 was announced by Teacher Othell J. Miller of the Theatre Arts program at the Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies. Mr. Miller sent a call to the students to participate in the school’s Cafè P.A.A.A.S. arts show that will be presented online due to the closing of all New Jersey schools because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are moving Cafè P.A.A.A.S. online, and we are turning Cafè P.A.A.A.S. into a virtual experience,“ said Miller. The show typically occurred in the school cafetorium but because of the present circumstances, the school had to move the show to an online format.”
The “call” for actors came via a video message produced by Miller enthusiastically calling on the students to stand up. He said, “I am calling on poets, actors, dancers, vocalists, instrumentalist and all artists to stand up and be accounted for. This is a student performance platform and for it to work we need the students to participate. To make this a smashing and overwhelming success we need your participation!"
Interested students should submit a 1-3-minute video audition. A committee will review the submissions and select the participants who will perform “Live” via Google Meet on Friday, May 1, from 2 to 3 p.m.
Students who participate in the show will not be graded. The Cafè P.A.A.A.S. performance is not part of a course and is not done for extra credit. Miller said Cafè P.A.A.A.S. is a platform meant to give students a voice. It’s an opportunity for them to hone their artistry. He says he often shares calls and opportunities for his students to experience performing before of an audience.
“I want students to know that their growth as artists is very often commensurate to the artistic opportunities they take advantage of,” said Miller.
