Capital Contracting & Design, located in Plainfield, NJ is closing their doors after 40 years of manufacturing displays, fixtures and Props for brick and mortar retailers. Major clients included Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and more.
Capital first began by making a trade show booth for Tumi Luggage on the third floor of the old Cadillac building on Park Avenue where Tumi was located. As the business grew the business relocated to a 10,000 sq ft facility on Arlington Avenue and finally to our current 35, 000 sq ft facility on the corner of North Avenue and Berkman Street. Two main factors have adversely affected the business resulting in a decision to close the operation: Amazon’s growth forced retailers to close doors and cut back while fixtures made in China are being sold to retailers in the US for less than the material cost of fixtures made domestically. Now with the lease coming to an end all remaining inventory in the plant including machinery and tools for woodworking and metal working as well as raw materials including plywoods, hardwoods, metal tubing, fabrics, wall covering, cabinet hardware, wood parts, mirror, glass shelving and plexi glass to name a few. There are also finished goods for sale including tables, seating, framed mirrors, table-top displays and store fixture hardware.
Starting on Tuesday, January 14th Capital Design will open our plant and begin our final sale. Hours will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. until all inventory is gone.
