CLARK, NJ - About 50 friends and relatives gathered Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Clark to help Dr. Harold Yood celebrate turning 100 years old.
Born in Plainfield and a 1936 graduate of Plainfield High School, Dr. Yood returned to the Queen City after serving as a Medical Officer attached to the 194th Glider infantry regiment and other military organizations.
Asked Saturday how he lived to 100, he answered in part he was “lucky” to avoid incidents that took the lives of many others during combat.
Dr. Yood practiced medicine for 44 years in Plainfield and after retirement became a familiar figure at City Council meetings, offering advice and opinions. He is still doing so on his blog, dpotpourri.blogspot.com
Dr. Yood and his wife Helen raised their four children in Plainfield. His wife, who sometimes accompanied him to City Council meetings, passed away in 2009.
Although his actual birthday is not until Sunday (Feb. 23), Dr. Yood appeared to enjoy holding court Saturday, seated on a gold-draped throne, with a crown and scepter. Among his many credentials, he is Plainfield’s own centenarian blogger.
