PLAINFIELD, NJ — The "Season of Sparkle" in Plainfield was officially kicked off with a flick of the switch and holiday music at the Special Improvement District ribbon cutting. The newly decorated office, located at 131 North Avenue, within walking district to the downtown train station, is where you will find Antoinette Brevard, Special Improvement District Director.

Mayor Adrian Mapp, City Council members, Freeholder Rebecca Williams, SID board members and business owners assembled to cut the ribbon.

Mayor Mapp congratulated the recently formed SID on its accomplishments thus far, and paused to welcome a visit from Santa who arrived care of the Plainfield Fire Division.  Mapp also mentioned that the Season of Sparkle was a great compliment to the city’s "Light up the City" initiative to install lights in dark areas.

Council President Joylette Mills-Ransome highlighted Small Business Saturday® and its importance to the local business community, and Freeholder Williams praised Brevard and offered the support of Union County.

TAPinto Plainfield caught up with Brevard a few weeks ago and learned about her plans for the season and her ideas behind the “Season of Sparkle.” Armed with a team of volunteers, it has come to fruition. In an adjacent vacant lot on North Ave, the space has been transformed into a holiday themed area for passersby to view and enjoy. Lights and décor were provided by Morning Star Holiday Lights in North Plainfield on Route 22, and residents can enjoy a 40 percent discount at the store as well throughout the season.
