PLAINFIELD, NJ — Antoinette Brevard is getting ready for the Season of Sparkle in Plainfield, and she is rallying all businesses, residents, churches, schools and even car owners in town to make it happen.

Starting Nov. 30, the Plainfield Business District will kick off the holiday season with events and activities that will be posted on its website and social media pages, and the entire city is urged to participate to make this year the best ever.

According to Brevard, she is starting with a clean slate as she is still relatively new to the city as the Executive Director of the former Special Improvement District. Now, almost nine months later, with a new board in place and a re-branded Plainfield Improvement District logo, Brevard feels that she can really put her own spin on the holiday season and the possibilities are endless.

MORE: Meet the Plainfield Central Business District's Executive Director

Beginning Wednesday, holiday wreaths will be installed along the major downtown streets, from Watchung to Park avenues, South Ave., Front St., and Gavett Pl.  Brevard says that they have already coordinated with the various city departments and local agencies to provide support services, and will work with a decorating vendor to make it happen despite the number of construction and road projects currently taking place.

Brevard mentioned ideas such as utilizing and transforming open space near the Plainfield Business District office at 131A North Ave. into a holiday-themed area and even a possible bus tour to view neighborhood decorations. The Netherwood Heights district is known for its annual luminary display.  Members of Netherwood Heights Neigbors line them throughout the neighborhood each Christmas Eve.

Brevard admits that she is still getting to know Plainfield, but with the help of volunteers and hosting weekly “Snacks at the SID” on Wednesdays, she has been able to meet business owners and community members, and share her ideas for promoting the upcoming events. Each week's "Snacks at the Sid" has been different, she said, not knowing who will drop by.  But Brevard noted that the discussions have been very informative and organic.

To help get the Season of Sparkle going, Morning Star Holiday Lights on Route 22 is offering Plainfield residents a 40 percent discount on holiday lights, and Brevard hopes that the community will take full advantage of this offer.
