PLAINFIELD, NJ — Here is a round-up of this week’s upcoming events in Plainfield. There is something for everyone in the Queen City.  Did we miss anything?


  • The Frontiers International Plainfield Area Club will present its 44th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast.  The breakfast, the longest running tribute to Dr. King in New Jersey, will be held Monday, Jan. 20 in the cafeteria and auditorium at Plainfield High School.  The guest speaker will be Bob Law, of WBAI Radio. The theme of Law's speech will be, "The Fierce Urgency of Now.”  The breakfast is an annual commemoration of the life of Dr. King, and highlights student groups, awards scholarships, and recognizes those in the community who have made outstanding contributions.
  • Work on the #BrownBag community service project with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County-Plainfield Club, 145 Park Ave., from noon to 3 p.m.  In partnership with the B.L.O.C.K.   • Boys Basketball:  MLK Classic at Trenton Central HS, 1 p.m.

  • Plainfield's City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, 325 Watchung Avenue, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday. Learn more here about what's on the agenda.

  • Wrestling:  an away match vs. Morris Hills, 4 p.m.
  • The Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Plainfield High School, 950 Park Ave.

  • The Story of Ruby Bridges, at 3:30 p.m. The true story of Ruby Bridges, who helped create a pivotal moment in the civil-rights movement. She was an African-American student who, in 1960 at age 6, helped to integrate the all-white schools of New Orleans and broke down century-old barriers forever.  At the Plainfield Public Library, 800 Park Avenue.


  • Girls Basketball: away game at Governor Livingston HS, 4 p.m.
  • Boys Basketball:  home game vs. Union Catholic, 7 p.m.
  • Swimming:  home meet vs. Governor Livingston HS at 4 p.m.
  • Bowling:  vs. Roselle Catholic HS at 4 p.m. at Jersey Lanes in Linden
  • Winter Crafts at the Plainfield Public Library, 3:30 p.m.& Join us this afternoon for a craft-time. All materials will be supplied.


  • St. Bartholomew Academy will host a Comedy Night. Tickets are $30, and include the show, which will feature an ALL-NEW line-up of three professional comedians, as well as beer, wine, soda, coffee, tea, and dessert.   • Wrestling:  an away match vs. Cranford HS, 4 p.m.
  • Learn to Play Chess at the Plainfield Public Library, 3 to 4 p.m.


  • Take your pet to the microchip and free rabies clinic at the Fire Station located at 1147 West 3rd Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plainfield residents: microchip at the discounted rate of $10 per pet.  Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.
  • Don't miss the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra's free family concert, at Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, 716 Watchung Avenue.  Join with the PSO to help another great community organization. At this concert they will be collecting canned and dried foods for Starfish Food Pantry.  Learn more at
  • Wrestling: Quad-JFK in Montville, 9 a.m.


  • Holy Trinity School will hold an open house from 1:30 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to visit the school, which offers Pre-K 2 through 8th grade.
