PLAINFIELD, NJ — The search for a permanent Superintendent of the Plainfield School District is finally over. After meeting in executive session for two hours this evening, Board of Education members emerged to greet the public and commence the summer meeting.
Following the public comments, Board President Richard Wyatt introduced a walk on resolution Q, not a part of the original agenda for special action to be taken.
Phil Stern, BOE Counsel read the following resolution:
WHEREAS, the Plainfield Board of Education (“Board”) has experienced a vacancy in the position of full-time Superintendent of Schools since January of 2017; and
WHEREAS, the Board has conducted a search for full-time Superintendent of Schools; and

WHEREAS, the Union County Superintendent of Schools has approved the Employment Agreement between Dr. Mitchell and the Board;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board resolves as follows:
- Pursuant to the approval of Union County Superintendent of Schools, and all other relevant laws and regulations, the Board hereby appoints Dr. Diana Mitchell as its Superintendent of Schools for a five (5) year term commencing on July 9, 2019, and ending June 30, 2024. The Board agrees to pay Dr. Mitchell an annual salary of one hundred ninety-six thousand five hundred eighty-four ($196,584.00) dollars.
- The Board hereby authorizes the Board President and the Acting Board Secretary to execute on its behalf the Employment Agreement with Dr. Mitchell.
The motion to approve the agreement was passed with Board Members Johnson, Morgan, Wyatt, Campbell and Andrews voting Yes, Cox abstained while Anderson, Richardson-Miller and Pile respectfully voting “No”.
In remarks made by Dr. Mitchell, “Thank you for trusting me with your most valuable resource, our children. It is not a position that I take lightly and I will work with you and on behalf of every student in the Plainfield School system. To the community here, please join me in serving as a champion for a least one child and one school in our District. I look forward to your partnership and your support.”
Dr. Roland Bolandi had served as the Interim Superintendent for approximately a year and a half until his resignation earlier this year.
