PLAINFIELD, NJ — Plainfield’s Board of Education virtual meeting was pushed to a 9 p.m. start time on Tuesday, and yet, an hour later, some people were left staring at a screen that said the host will let you in soon, while others were seeing a message that the meeting was at its capacity of 300. Interest was high as personnel issues were on the table. Then, a screen came up, saying the meeting was ended. Another Zoom session was started, and the meeting finally began after 10 p.m.
Public comment was expanded at least two times, with teachers, custodians, assistants, and more, speaking on the potential changes that would include job losses, full-time positions becoming part-time with a loss of benefits, and a shuffling of high school principals that would remove Dr. Angela Bento from P.A.A.A.S.
After numerous passionate pleas to reconsider the personnel items, the Board made a motion to not approve the Human Resources part of the agenda. A special meeting will take place on Monday, June 29, time to be determined, to vote.
