PLAINFIELD, NJ — Plainfield’s Class of 2020 wrapped up its graduation day celebrations, with a parade organized by the City of Plainfield. The day began with two virtual ceremonies, one for Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies, or P.A.A.A.S., and one for Plainfield High School.
The parade began with students assembling in the parking lot at Plainfield High School, proceeding down Park Avenue escorted by first responders, and ending at the steps of City Hall. A short program followed with remarks from the city officials, the P.A.A.A.S. Valedictorian and a few musical selections.
“Know that you will be the leaders that come after us, and we want you to be confident and prepared. We want you to excel and be your best,” Mayor Adrian O. Mapp told the graduates, adding, “You have an obligation to be socially responsible, you have the obligation to lift as you climb, you have an obligation to pull someone along with you. Carve your own destiny. You want to shape society and be the change that you want in this world.”
P.A.A.A.S. Valedictorian, Kamani Jones, offered powerful words of encouragement to her fellow graduates, “The mind is a powerful tool. Never take no for an answer. Use your voice. The top is not for just one person but an unlimited space so it is possible for you and everyone else to excel and leave a great legacy behind.” Jones also thanked her family who she referred to as her great support system.
Assemblywoman Linda Carter, Council President Steve Hockaday, Board of Education member Lynn Anderson-Person, among others, also offered congratulatory remarks.
The program also included musical selections performed by Danielle Tucker and Raymond Wyatt Jr.
Attendees were also entertained by the use of drone photography to photograph a group shot of graduates, family members and officials.
Congratulations class of 2020!
