Schools will be closed from March 18 to April 3
PLAINFIELD, NJ — New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy ordered all public, private, and parochial schools in the state to close starting Wednesday, March 18. Plainfield Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Diana Mitchell sent a letter Monday to all personnel, parents and students outlining the procedures that will be implemented in the district to ensure the continuation of learning during the time schools will be closed, from March 18 to April 3.
Dr. Mitchell said, “A proactive plan has been developed by the District’s Administration to ensure the continuation of services to our students. Teachers and Administrators have worked extremely hard to prepare instructional packets and Google lessons for them to use during this time.”
She stated that all instructional staff, guidance counselors and personnel will be available via email during scheduled school time for students who may have questions. Students receiving special services will be contacted directly by one of the district's service providers via email or telephone to continue their individual plans.
On Tuesday, March 17, when the students return to school for half a day, all elementary school and middle school students will receive instructional packets, while high school students will receive additional instructions on how to access Google Classroom and/or other online learning platforms. Parents and students may also access additional instructional materials via the district’s website HERE.
The expectation for all students is that they will complete their assignments daily.
The Superintendent reiterated that students will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at three locations.
- Emerson Community School, 305 Emerson Avenue
- Plainfield High School, 950 Park Avenue
- Clinton Elementary School, 1302 W. 4th Street
During this remote/virtual instructional period, school principals, other administrators, teachers, support staff, and secretaries will be available via email during school hours.
Dr. Mitchell said, “Please contact your child’s principal via email with any questions and continue to check our district’s webpage at www.plainfieldnjk12.org for updates.”
