As a candidate for the Plainfield Board of Education, I want residents to be better acquainted with who I am, why I’m running and what they will get out of my term.
I am the proud beneficiary of the New York City public school system. I graduated from Syracuse University and am a licensed risk management, financial services and continuing education instructor. I’ve also completed the Yale School of Management Executive Education Program for Leadership.
My wife and I moved to Plainfield in 2000, where I continued community service with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Fountain Baptist Church, and Union County Community College, among others.
Last winter I started attending Plainfield Board of Education meetings to better understand the district’s policies, challenges and opportunities. I quickly grew frustrated with the lack of transparency, accountability and community engagement. Many discussions and decisions seemed to occur “behind closed doors,” and questions from the public went unanswered.
As opposed to criticizing, I want to be part of the process for new perspectives and solutions FOR OUR CHILDREN. If elected, I will work hard with all members of the board to ensure that our children have the same opportunities to thrive that I did. If they succeed, we all win! Residents’ property values will rise, the city can attract more investments, our tax base will increase, and we will have more resources to ensure that education takes first place in our city year after year.
