SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Just one day after publicizing a $22.95 Family Meal Deal (for four people) that would help raise money to feed struggling local families, the Stage House Tavern ended the program, citing safety concerns and government crackdown as the reason, according to the eatery's Facebook page. The deal was available at several Stage House locations, including Scotch Plains and Mountainside.

The message called the initial outpour of support "overwhelming" and realized that the need for help "was greater than imagined." The post also mentioned that the Stage House was having difficulty vetting the volunteers who offered to help and that the risk to the volunteers outweighed the greater good they were trying to achieve.

Therefore, with heavy hearts we are suspending our meal donation service until further notice. Hopefully a time will come soon where we can safely resume operations, and we want nothing more than to do so... We love you all, and we hope to have some better news in the near future.
