FANWOOD, NJ -- With bagpipers, step dancers, live music and a DJ, Sheelen's Crossing Pub & Bistro (200 South Ave, Fanwood) will host its third annual street party on Saturday, Nov. 3, with festivities and live entertainment beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The party will take place on the Sheelen’s Crossing Bridge and will feature drink specials, food specials, and live entertainment including Three Piece Nugget (classic and modern rock cover band), singer/songwriter Billy Wilkins, and DJ Renee.
Sheelen’s gets its name from the nearby bridge that spans across the NJ Transit railroad tracks from North Avenue to South Avenue. The bridge was named for the Sheelen family, which ran a grocery store in the 1900s near the train station. It became a gathering place for local residents, something that owners Sean Flannery and Frank Pascale have tried to recreate today.
“Fanwood is very fortunate to have such engaged community partners in Frank and Sean,” said Mayor Colleen Mahr. “Sheelen’s Crossing is a vibrant part of Fanwood, and I look forward to celebrating another successful year ahead for them.”
Since opening, Sheelen’s has helped organizations including the Boy Scouts, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Boosters, SPF PAL, Rockin’ for Autism, Fanwood Rescue Squad, Scotch Plains Rescue Squad, Children’s Specialized Hospital, Knights of Columbus, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Rotary, Plainfield Symphony, the JCC, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, and Scotch Plains-Fanwood Baseball Little League, among others.
