PLAINFIELD, NJ — Nov. 30 is Small Business Saturday®, a day when shopping small and locally can help make a difference for many small businesses in Plainfield this holiday season.
Small Business Saturday® was created by American Express in 2010 to show appreciation for and to support small local businesses. This “business holiday” encourages consumers to support neighborhood stores, small businesses, and restaurants in their community.
According to the 2018 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, produced by American Express and the National Federation of Independent Business, 104 million shoppers spent a record high $17.8 billion in 2018.
The most popular independent retailers visited last year included restaurants, bars and pubs (41 percent), clothing and accessories stores (24 percent), food stores (23 percent) and coffee shops (22 percent). According to the survey, 83 percent reported encouraging others to also dine small.
Local business owners often do more than provide options for places to eat and buy goods. They also donate their time, funds, products and services to multiple charitable organizations which enhance the community. So be sure to support a Plainfield small business! Find one near you.
