Angels For Action: Plainfield Food Pantry

Celebrating 10+ Years Of Community Outreach

Angels for Action(AFA)is a 501 (c)3 community based, grass roots, non- profit, professionally organized organization, which was initiated 12 years ago by Co Founder Community Pioneers, Mrs. Carmen Salavarrieta and Mrs. Jody Wood, who had already given over forty years of voluntary community service on many levels, for various purposes. They decided to formalize their work, form an advocacy community organization, have Board, and become a partner to several communities, with a focus on the Queen City, Plainfield, NJ.

Angels for Action would like to thank United Way for their wonderful donation of vegetables, which we gave out to families that are struggling to put food on the table. It was greatly appreciated by all the recipients, some who picked up the items at our location in Plainfield and others who received delivery of the United Way items from Angels for Action volunteers. Since March 26th we have weekly been donating food multiple times a week. Whether we drop off food to people’s doorsteps or getting ready for pickups, as a 100% volunteer based organization we spend our own time and money to make sure the food gets where it needs to go.

Currently, Angels for Action has been receiving perishable food donations from several restaurants, and organizations. The happy faces, from the hundreds of hot meals provided, helped many needy families and it is so rewarding to see. We are honored to be working with Mr. Belal Khalid and his Humanity First USA team from Edison in distributing food as they also have provided many wonderful handmade face masks, clothing donations and much more.

During this crisis for many people of Union county, we will be thankful to have found other organizations that aligned with our cause. Not to mention the Consulado Salvadorian, Hands Of Hope, Plainfield YMCA, Assemblywomen Linda Carta, Freeholder Sergio Granados, and other amazing local community members. Along with providing essentials, we also have been trying to inform our community filling out the NJ 2020 Census.

As of March 26th 2020

  • We have distributed about 2200+ meals (food for 3-4 people each)  and hundreds of non-perishable items
  • Food
    • 500 individuals  (including Day laborers)
    • 1700 families (average 3-4 people per family)
  • TOTAL: we serviced about 7200 people in the Plainfield area
