PLAINFIELD, NJ — Netherwood Heights Neighbors, one of Plainfield's neighborhood associations, is seeking donations for its 14th Annual Food Drive to benefit local families in need.

Neighbor Laura Kayser is again spearheading this initiative, working as the liaison with Plainfield Action Services whose mission is to provide services to the city's low-income families and individuals regardless of ethnicity, religion or race through programs, direct monetary assistance (when available), information and referrals.

Plainfield Action Services identifies families in need, and the association purchases a ham and a turkey for each family. The remainder of the food in the prepared baskets is donated by neighbors and area residents.

During the 2019 drive, Kayser told TAPinto Plainfield, "My favorite things about the Netherwood Holiday Food Drive are witnessing the generosity of our Plainfield community and meeting wonderful families and seniors all over the city. It's what the holiday season is all about, and volunteering for food delivery is a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit."

Suggested food items include canned goods, rice and pasta, cereal, peanut butter and jelly, and other new and non-expired, non-perishable food.

Donated items can be dropped off at 1116 Loraine Avenue in the Netherwood section of Plainfield through Monday, December 7.  To volunteer to make a delivery on Saturday, December 12 or Sunday, December 13, call Laura directly at 908-472-4375.

Depending upon the number of food item donations, all leftover food that isn't delivered to the identified recipients will go to Plainfield's Starfish Food Pantry.
