Volunteers Needed for Saturday Academy at Plainfield Public Schools

PLAINFIELD, NJ – Volunteers are needed to participate in The Plainfield Public Schools’ Saturday Academy is currently seeking volunteers to participate in its program for the 2017-2018 school year, beginning Saturday, September 23, 2017.

The Saturday Academy is in its third year of operation thanks to the assistance of volunteers from the Plainfield community donating their time and expertise, Saturdays from 10 am to 12 noon.

Volunteers are welcome to share with and instruct young audiences and their families on subjects and skills they are most comfortable teaching. The Saturday Academy offers classes in:

  • Computer Skills
  • Dance
  • Math Concepts
  • Modern Families
  • Martial Arts Concepts and Discipline
  • Nutrition
  • Conversational Spanish
  • Zumba®

Currently there is a need for literacy and art volunteers. If you are interested in community service and are willing to spend one to two hours on Saturdays, from September 23 through December 9, 2017, or February 3 through May 19, 2018, please contact Gloria Montealegre, Community Engagement Liaison for Plainfield Public Schools, at 908-731-4333.

The program is free and open to all Plainfield residents.

Letters and certificates are presented to all volunteers during graduation ceremonies in May 2018.
