PLAINFIELD, NJ — Plainfield's City Council will hold its final meeting of the year on Monday, Dec. 9 in Municipal Court.  The Combined Agenda Session is a result of last week’s storm which resulted in the early closure of schools, businesses and city offices.

On the agenda are 21 resolutions, and two ordinances up for second reading and final passage.  Some notable highlights include new business from the Legislative Body, presenting a resolution to Councilman Cory Storch for serving four terms as Second Ward Councilman; Sean McKenna will succeed Storch in 2020.  Another resolution would authorize free metered holiday parking in the Central Business District.

A resolution authorizing the City of Plainfield to enter into an agreement with New Jersey Transit for the construction of a pedestrian mall indicates that some negotiations have taken place and the city is one step closer to commencing the project.  At a public meeting held in May 2018, plans for the pedestrian mall were revealed to business owners and residents.  Mayor Adrian O. Mapp stated at the time that the mall at the city’s main train station would bring a “plethora of opportunities.” Many of those present at the meeting raised concerns over parking.

Another redevelopment plan is being proposed for the area located within 112-118 Waynewood Park, Block 232, Lots 4 and 5, and 117-123 Lafayette Place, Block 232.  According to the details provided the lots in question are related to a redevelopment plan for the Marino Tract that was previously approved and adopted in July 2000. The resolution directs the Planning Board to hold a public hearing, and to report back to council members.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Municipal Court at 325 Watchung Ave. Residents are encouraged to attend and can participate during the general public comment portion of the meeting.
