PLAINFIELD, NJ - Plainfield held its annual Memorial Day ceremony at city hall on Monday morning, with veterans, residents, and members of the administration in attendance.

The service began with a walk to the flag pole at the war memorial, a structure completed in 1926 by artist Gaetano Cecere to honor those of the Great War.

The ceremony's participants and attendees then walked back towards city hall, where Mayor Adrian O. Mapp said, "Let's begin with a moment of silence for all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice."

Mapp added, "As we remember on this Memorial Day the many who fought and died in the service of this nation, I will continue to encourage all of us as residents of the city of Plainfield to never forget those who made that ultimate sacrifice in the service of the United States of America."

An invocation was led by Council Vice President Barry Goode.

Assemblywoman Linda Carter also spoke.  "Our gathering here today is just one small spark in the flame of remembrance that burns across the nation today, and indeed, every day."
