NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The gymnasium at North Plainfield Middle School has been closed after mercury was found in the flooring during recent testing.

North Plainfield Superintendent Michelle Aquino sent a letter to parents and staff regarding mercury levels in the District on Tuesday after testing was done in the gym flooring in both the middle school and Somerset School.

“This letter is to inform you of a health and facilities issue at the North Plainfield Middle School and the steps the District is taking to ensure continued safety,” she said. “Our school system is committed to protecting the health of our students and staff. I will be posting reports and communications to the community as well as dedicating this site to informational updates and the remediation process.”
