PLAINFIELD, NJ - Winter Storm Riley's strong winds have brought down trees, and cut power to both street lights and homes on Friday in Plainfield and surrounding areas.
A tree on Dixie Lane in the Netherwood Heights section crushed a vehicle and brought wires down. Firefighters on the scene blocked the area off. The Sleepy Hollow area also has a downed tree, and residents on social media are reporting power outages.
A tree is blocking the street on Evergreen Avenue, and took down wires and broke a pole in half.
A reader reported a telephone pole with power lines came down on Myrtle Ave. in front of Allen-Young apartments. Myrtle Avenue was closed at Clinton and DeKalb avenues.
Earlier in the day, flooding was reported on Route 22.
As of 6:55 p.m. New Jersey Transit train service in and out of Penn Station New York is subject to up to 120 minute delays due to an Amtrak overhead wire problem near Secaucus, according to the website.
Strong winds will continue through the evening, and a high wind warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.
