PLAINFIELD, NJ - Plainfield's police and fire departments are holding toy drives to spread cheer this holiday season, and collections will benefit local area youth.

Plainfield PBA Local 19 is collecting toys that are suitable for both boys and girls, for infants up to 13 years old, through Wednesday, Dec. 19.  Items can be dropped off at Police Headquarters, at 200 East 4th St.

The PBA holiday toy giveaway, a free event, will take place at the Plainfield Rescue Squad building, 700 West 7th St. at Spooner Ave., on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Not to be outdone, the Plainfield Fire Division is also collecting toys this holiday season.  The cost of admission to its annual holiday party on Dec. 13 is an unwrapped toy, valued at $15 or more. 

And for the sixth year in a row, students at Maxson Middle School are helping Plainfield's firefighters collect donations.  Gifts for children 3 months to 16 years can be dropped off in front of the main office or security desk at the school, at 920 East 7th St., through Friday, Dec. 21.  For more information, contact Kelicia Paynter, a Behavioral Teacher's Aide at the school:  call 908-403-5140 or email plummommie@gmail.com.

Firefighters will distribute toys on Friday, Dec. 21 at Plainfield Fire Headquarters, 315 Central Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m.

MORE:  Stop by the Plainfield Rescue Squad to enjoy some signature cocktails during the holiday season.  Proceeds from the recommended donation of $50 will go towards education for PRS Cadet and Explorer programs, and more.
