PLAINFIELD, NJ - The holiday shopping season is moving into high gear, kicking off with Black Friday, and followed by Cyber Monday, which, according to Adobe, totaled $3.07 billion in 2015, a 16% increase over the previous year.

The Plainfield Police Division shares some package delivery safety tips to protect your purchases:

  • Install a video surveillance system
  • Choose a shipping option that requires a signature
  • Track delivery status online
  • Arrange to have your package shipped to another location where someone you trust can receive it directly
  • If you know you will not be home to receive your package, leave special instructions with the shipper to deliver the package to a trusted neighbor
  • Have the delivery service hold your package for customer pick-up

Some neighborhood awareness tips to keep in mind:

  • A suspicious person standing in front of a residence on a cell phone
  • Vehicles circling a neighborhood and / or following delivery trucks
  • A suspicious person attempting to gain entry into an apartment complex by posing as a delivery person

The Police Division reminds you that if you suspect criminal activity, contact the police by calling 9-1-1.
