SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield Police are investigating an early morning crash that caused a tractor trailer to overturn, taking out a utlitity pole and triggering a chemical spill.

According to police, Mary Hearns, 67, of Plainfield, was driving the truck northbound on Clinton Ave. at about 7:11 Tuesday morning when the load shifted causing it to overturn near the curve at Tompkins Ave. 

The crash caused also caused a chemical to spill from the trailer prompting a response from a Middlesex County Hazmat team, said police.

Hearns was taken to JFK Hospital in Edison for treatment of minor injuries, said officials.

The crash remains under investigation.
