BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Diamond Hill Road was closed due to a tanker fire at  approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. The tanker, carrying 7,000 gallons of fuel, was traveling north on Diamond Hill Road heading to New Providence for a delivery.  

The Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Chatham Township, Summit and Stirling Fire Departments responded. Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad was on the scene for aid.

Berkeley Heights Fire Chief Anthony Padavano was initial commander. Fire was extinguished before it got serious and driver is safe, said Fire Department Deputy Chief Jim Hopkins.

The Union County Haz Mat, NJDEP and Berkeley Heights Fire Department will remain on scene until all the gasoline is off loaded.

Fanwood, Scotch Plains and Plainfield Fire Departments responded to cover the township, said Hopkins.
