Plainfield, NJ – The Athletics Department for Plainfield Public Schools will host a "Meet the Coach Night" with Head Football Coach Don Sofilkanich on Tuesday, July 23 at Plainfield High School.

Sofilkanich, a renowned high school coach with three consecutive State titles and several players who went on to the NFL, was appointed to the position at Plainfield Cardinals in March, and soon after he began to oversee the entire football program at Plainfield High School and the middle schools.  The coach is charged with rebuilding the Cardinals program.  The team went 2-9-0 in its 2018 season under Coach Corey Tucker.

Coach Sofilkanich has assisted on State Championships at Dover in 1996, and at New Brunswick in 2003 and 2006. His 2003 team was named the top public schools team in New Jersey, and had New York Giant Captain and 2 time Super Bowl Champion Jonathan Casillas on its roster, as well as USC National Champion and All American Dwayne Jarrett.  Most recently, Coach Sofilkanich led the Asbury Park program to three consecutive State Titles as its head coach and rebuilt the New Brunswick football team.

At his appointment earlier this year, Director of Plainfield Public Schools Athletics John Quinn said, “Coach Sofilkanich has an amazing background as a Football coach and is a proven winner and rebuilder of high school football teams. We are very excited to have him join our Cardinal Football Team as our Head Football Coach. I think he is going to provide renewed enthusiasm to the program. We have a proven leader and molder of young men at the helm of our football program."  Sofilkanich coached under Quinn in New Brunswick from 2002 to 2005.
