WESTFIELD, NJ — The East Broad Street store for the popular jewelry company Alex and Ani is now shuttered.
On Thursday, lettering atop the storefront at 200 East Broad St. that once stated “Alex and Ani” had been removed and employees were clearing out the storefront.
One employee, who declined to be named, confirmed that the store would not be coming back to Westfield. An email to the company was not returned on Thursday.
In 2014, women had lined up around the block to enter the shop on Girls’ Night Out in Westfield and the store, which opened that February, had quickly become a draw to the downtown.
The closure, which is being confirmed as the holiday shopping season begins, comes amid financial distress businesses face as a consequence of the pandemic.
The nearest Alex and Ani store to Westfield is at The Mills at Jersey Gardens, located in Elizabeth, according to the Alex and Ani website.
