CRANFORD, NJ - Daniel Serna is a Cranford High School student running his fifth annual school supply drive to benefit children whose families are served by Homefirst in Plainfield. Area residents can drop off new school supplies in the donation box at the Cranford Community Center at 220 Walnut Avenue through August 15th.
Homefirst Interfaith Housing & Family Services provides housing, homeless prevention assistance, and family support to help strengthen the community. New school supplies are a huge help to families who are struggling to make ends meet.
Serna notes, "I'm grateful to the many people in our community who donate each year. All kids deserve to start the year off right with the new supplies they need." All new school supplies are welcome--three-ring binders, loose leaf paper, backpacks, folders, pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, markers, and notebooks are all needed.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, Serna has been able to collect enough school supplies each year to provide for all the children in Homefirst programs in Plainfield. Homefirst’s Plainfield Family Support Center now hosts an annual school supply giveaway with the supplies donated through Serna’s project. In 2017, Serna was among the honorees at Homefirst's annual Evening of Thanks Award Dinner.
