Union County, NJ - Cedar Brook Park in Plainfield, NJ will be the site of a Community Unity Rally, Voter Registration Drive & Tax March on Plainfield. The event will take place Saturday April 15 from 11:00 AM. - 2:00 PM.

The rally is being organized by an all-volunteer, grass roots committee and is nonpartisan. The City of Plainfield, dubbed the Queen City,  has been chosen in the hopes that people of similar social and political goals will cross the suburban/urban, racial and socio-economic lines people often do not cross. The committee is chaired by Maggie Savoca of Fanwood.

"In these challenging times, we all need to come together and educate ourselves about current policies and proposed changes to policies and the federal budget," explained Savoca. "It's also going to be a wonderful day to celebrate the rich, diverse culture of Union County.  It will be a big picnic - with entertainment, education and a voter registration drive."

Mayor Adrian Mapp of Plainfield will open the rally and welcome the crowd to the City of Plainfield.  "I am so happy the organizers have chosen Plainfield to host this event. I look forward to welcoming my fellow Plainfield residents, as well as many people from across Union County.  We are a densely-populated county and it is wonderful some of the gubernatorial candidates have chosen to come and speak here. They will find Union County residents are aware of the issues facing our state and our cities, and we will be interested in hearing the plans of the candidates to lead us."

Invitations to speak have been issued to all gubernatorial candidates as well as organizational leaders in the arenas of transparency in government, freedom of the press, social justice, education, healthcare and immigration.

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Jim Johnson (jimjohnson4governor.com) will speak at the rally. Assemblyman Jerry Green, NJ District 22, also will address the crowd as will Gubernatorial Candidate and NJ Senator Raymond Lesniak. Green Party Gubernatorial Candidate Seth Kaper-Dale has also agreed to attend and speak.  When asked about what motivated him to run for office Kaper-Dale explained, "There's plenty of money in New Jersey. It's time to shift the burden off of the poor and working class and have the rich pay their fair share."

Additionally, Rahway Councilman Bob Bresenhan, Jr., Paul Alirangues (candidate NJ Assembly D-22), Bill Brennan – NJ Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate, Hyacinth Foundation, folk singer Joe Zavatsky, and Naughty Clouds will appear and perform.

The Tax March is similar to the Women's March on Washington.  More than 100 marches will take place in 45 states in the US and the District of Columbia.  Marches will also take place in the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and New Zealand.   Every American has a vested interest in President Trump adhering to his promise to release his tax returns. Without releasing his taxes Americans are in the dark about Trump's conflicts of interest and foreign entanglements.

The event is FREE however those wishing to attend must rsvp for planning purposes. To RSVP or for more information on the Plainfield event, to donate, sponsor or RSVP visit www.taxmarchplainfield.org. People are encouraged to bring blankets and a picnic lunch.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
