Rahway Mayor Giacobbe to Attend Thursday Grand Opening of First Wawa Store in Rahway; Free Coffee Offered Through July 16

RAHWAY, NJ - Rahway Mayor Raymond A. Giacobbe will be on hand to cut the ribbon at 10 a.m. Thursday. July 12, for the new Wawa store's grand opening at 280 St. Georges Avenue in Rahway.

The 24-hour Wawa store will officially open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, with the grand opening ceremonies to follow. Free coffee will be offered at the store through July 16. Wally Goose, the store mascot, will also be on hand for the ribbon cutting.

“At Wawa, when we open a new store, we celebrate our commitment to not only fulfill lives with our fresh food and beverages, latest store designs, and expanded offerings, but also our commitment to the community and our new neighbors” Jason Read, Wawa director of store operations, said.

“We are also proud that we provide that special atmosphere where people hold the door for one another, create lasting memories and go from acquaintances to become friends and neighbors. We’re thrilled to celebrate this grand opening and highlight our commitment to our new communities with fun celebrations, charitable donations, and thousands of moments all for the ‘Neighborgood.’” 

As part of the grand opening of the Rahway store, the Wawa Foundation will hold a hoagie-building competition between local USO members "Stars" and "Stripes." Wawa will donate a total of $100,000 to its national charity partners and charities selected by local police, fire firefighters and emergency responders, as a result of its Hoagies for Heroes hoagie-building competition. The opening will also feature a Goose Pride Parade.

About Wawa’s Rahway, NJ Store and Local Economic Impact

Wawa’s Rahway store features 5,051 square feet of retail space, additional gasoline facility, as well as new in-store graphics, colors, restroom design, and merchandising features and large expanded windows providing a clear view inside of the new design.

James Pielli will serve as general manager of the store, leading a team of nearly 30 associates, all of which are new positions brought to the area through the development of the store. Associates in these full- and part-time positions will not only receive competitive salaries and health benefits, but once eligible, will participate in Wawa’s employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). Wawa Associates own more than 41% of Wawa through the ESOP. The new Wawa store will offer customers numerous Wawa brands, such as the award-winning Wawa coffee (195 million cups sold annually); the Sizzli, Wawa’s hot breakfast sandwich; Wawa’s new line of specialty beverages (hot, cold, iced and frozen); Wawa Bakery; Wawa’s built-to-order hoagies (80 million sold annually); and Wawa’s beverage line of dairy products, juices and teas.
