RAHWAY, NJ - Environmentally conscious volunteers will converge tomorrow (Sept. 8) behind Rahway City Hall to clean a section of the Rahway River, a project that is likely to be "wet and muddy," says one of the organizers.
The cleanup is being supervised by the Rahway River Watershed Association and the Central Jersey Stream Team (CJST). It will be the first time members of the CJSTperformed a cleanup outside the Raritan watershed, according to the group.
"This site is full of tires, shopping carts and other junk and really needs a good cleaning," says CJST on its website. "This section of river is tidal so we're going to be chasing the low tide when the river bottom becomes accessible. I won't sugarcoat it, this will be a wet and muddy one!"
Helping out with the work will be some boats, but volunteers are expected to come prepared - with tall boots and waders - to foray into the littered muck, says CJST.
The cleanup is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and should be finished by 2 p.m. Those wishing to join in should sign-up here or contact Jens Riedel at firstname.lastname@example.org or 908 240-1346.
