TAMPERE, FINLAND - Jordan West of Rahway finished sixth in the shot put on the first day of the IAAF U20 Junior World Track & Field Championships held Tuesday in Tampere Stadium.
West's best throw was his first, which traveled 19.86 meters/65 feet, 2 inches. The sophomore at the University of Tennessee followed with four straight foul attempts.
Adrian Piperi of Texas won the silver medal for the USA with a throw of 22.06 meters/72 feet, 4.5 inches, breaking the USA Junior record held Jordan Geist. Kyle Blignaut of South Africa edged out Piperi to win the gold medal with a throw of 22.07 meters/72 feet, 5 inches.
