ROXBURY, NJ - A Succasunna woman attempted to kill her grandmother last month by poisoning her with anti-freeze, said authorities.

The woman, Elise Conroy, 26, was charged Saturday with first-degree attempted murder, said Morris County Prosecutor' Frederic Knapp and Roxbury Police Chief Marc Palachi in a statement.

They said Conroy, in late July, "purchased liquid anti-freeze from a local store with the purpose of poisoning her grandmother, whom she resided ... it is alleged that Conroy poured the anti-freeze into juice and gave the juice to her grandmother." The grandmother, whose name was not released, is 84, said Knapp and Palanchi.

Conroy was charged by a warrant complaint early Saturday. She was placed in the Morris County jail pending further court appearances, said the authorities.

The chief and prosecutor revealed no information about the grandmother's condition. They urged anyone with more information about the matter to contact the Roxbury Township Police Department at 973-448-2100 or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200

Antifreeze poisoning "is often implicated in deaths due to poisoning – either murder or suicide," according to healthhype.com. "The sweet taste makes in fairly inconspicuous and if mixed with alcoholic drinks, it is easily missed. However, modern pathology and forensic science has made it easy for a case of antifreeze poisoning to be identified."

The case was investigated by Roxbury police, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section, said the statement.
