Rahway, NJ- Diehard VoicePlay fans were shocked and saddened to hear that member Tony Wakim was going to be leaving the five-member a cappella group. The announcement came in the form of a YouTube video entitled “VoicePlay is Auditioning!” in which the four remaining members, Earl Elkins, Jr., Layne Stein, Eliezer “Eli” Jacobson and Geoff Castellucci, explained that Wakim needed the time to be home and to focus on other projects.

This left a gap in their ensemble that the group was looking to fill after conducting a series of auditions. As of now, there has been no official announcement of Wakim’s permanent replacement. However, for their UCPAC performance on Saturday, February 4, VoicePlay has enlisted a talented colleague to perform as their baritone: Erik Winger.

Winger is one of the founding members of a six-piece a cappella group named ECHO, which is based in Orlando, Florida. He has lived in Orlando for the past 18 years, though he grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. VoicePlay is also based in Orlando, which may have been how the first connection was formed. Winger has performed with VoicePlay previously, as well as with other a cappella groups, such as The Edge Effect and Return 2 Zero. His credentials also include having received a BFA in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University. The UCPAC is very excited to welcome Erik to our stage!

Tickets are still available for the performance, but patrons should act fast. Go to ucpac.org for tickets, or call the box office at (732) 499-8226. The UCPAC is located at 1601 Irving Street.
