Randolph, NJ – Shongum School is hosting a Re-Used Book Sale that will be open to the public on Thursday, March 6 from 3:00-8:00PM in celebration of Read Across America Week. Gently used books and DVDs (for all ages) were generously donated by the Shongum community for this inaugural event and will be resold to the public to benefit the Shongum School PTO.
The idea of Read Across American Week began in 1997 and the first one was held in 1998. Each year it is centered around March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the popular children's author. The event was created to draw awareness to reading in children across the country.
Shongum School decided to further promote this occasion by holding a gently used book and DVD drive and then re-selling the items collected. By doing this, they are recycling and reusing the resources within the Randolph community and benefitting the PTO. All books will be priced under $5 with most being less than $2. Any books not sold will be offered to the school librarian and then to classroom teachers for their own libraries. Any items still left will be donated.
Jen Peel, Shongum PTO VP of Fundraising says “This is going to be a great event. It's a win-win for everyone. Families are able to donate books their children have outgrown to a worthy cause and in turn these books find new, good homes. Everyone will benefit from this. We’re looking forward to a successful first event.”
