RANDOLPH, NJ- Soon to be graduated Randolph high school senior Erik Jensen has earned himself the prestigious honor of being selected as the school’s recipient of the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.
Each year, every member school (Which includes most high schools in NJ) selects a senior who meets the following three criteria:
- Plays an NJSIAA varsity sport.
- Possesses a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.0
- Exhibits outstanding school and community citizenship
“The NJSIAA Scholar Athlete is one that exemplifies the very best of sportsmanship and athletic competition, along with academic prowess and strong focus on scholastic studies,” said Randolph high school Athletic Director Jeff DiLollo. “Erik represents the very best of Randolph Athletics – I have come to witness these attributes in addition to the high character and strong determination that makes him a truly admirable scholar athlete.”
Jensen was honored at the annual Scholar Athlete awards ceremony, where over $120,000 in scholarships are given out each year to athletes at this prestigious event.
Jensen’s GPA is 4.32, and he earned eight total varsity letters in multiple sports, a combination of Lacrosse, Cross Country, and Wrestling, while being named captain in the latter two. Jensen will attend the prestigious Air Force Academy in the fall of 2017.
“Erik Jensen is a young man all high school students should look to emulate,” said Randolph high school principle Debbie Iosso. “Not only has he challenged himself academically with honors and advanced placement courses, he has maintained a moral compass that has allowed him to earn the respect of peers and adults alike. He is a young man to be proud of and will be an exemplary addition to the Air Force Academy. I can’t wait to see what Erik Jensen has in store for the world.”
