RANDOLPH, NJ - The fog-filled baseball field on the campus of Randolph High School proved to be too much for the North 1, Group 4 State semifinal showdown between top-seeded Randolph and fifth-seeded Morristown.
Before the game was called, Randolph was able to get out in front. In the bottom half of the first inning, the Rams would get on the board against Morristown starter and Seton Hall commit Brennan O’Neill. Chris Flynn would double and score on a Jake Barbiere single into the barely visible outfield, putting Randolph ahead 1-0.
Randolph starter and Pace commit Thomas Ippolito faced the minimum over his first two innings, striking out three and yielding just a fielding error before forcing the next batter to hit into a 6-4-3 double play.
After a leadoff single and sacrifice bunt put Connor Sullivan on second base with one out in the bottom of the second for Randolph, the umpires called out the coaches for a decision on whether or not to continue the game.
After nearly ten minutes of deliberation, the umpires and coaches decided to postpone. The game will be picked up where it left off tomorrow, Wednesday May 31st at 4:00 p.m. at Randolph.
