"Amy has been an incredible community volunteer over the years and has made a difference in the educational experience that our students receive in Randolph," said Mrs. Tammy MacKay, the current president. "She is passionate about all kids and has helped to create an environment within our schools that fosters growth and success. She will be missed by the Board of Education and we thank her for all her years of service and all of her contributions to making the Randolph School District what it is today."
Superintendent Dr. David Browne echoed these sentiments.
"Mrs. Sachs has been a tireless and passionate advocate for the students and families of Randolph," he said. "It has been my honor to serve as superintendent under her leadership, and I will forever be grateful for the professional opportunities she has provided to me personally and to our entire professional and support staff. I will miss her wit and wisdom every single day of my remaining time serving the district we both love."
As Browne emotionally recognized Sachs as the individual who made the greatest difference three years ago in supporting his being hired as Superintendent, he stated " I work tirelessly to live up to Amy Sachs example. You are a phenomenal, brilliant woman."
Sachs has been a member of the Board since October 2006, when she was appointed as a replacement. She was first elected to the Board in April 2007. Sachs attended George Washington University where she received a BA degree in Finance. She worked at a financial institution in Manhattan for 10 years before "retiring" to become a mom.
She was active in the Randolph now-PTO for 10 years, serving eight years on the executive board at Shongum School, including three years as president. Later she was vice president of the Middle School PTA for two years and spent five years as a member of the PTA Council.
In more recent years, Sachs served as president of the Board from 2010-2013 and, before that, served as vice president. She also held that position during the 2012-2013 school year. Mrs. Sachs has been married to her husband, Ron, for more than 20 years and has two sons: Alex, who graduated RHS in 2010 and Oliver, who graduated RHS in 2013. Both are currently enrolled at Tulane University.
Sachs explained that she planned to stay on the board until everything was settled in the new year before she resigned. "I loved my time here and I will miss it."
Board Member Chistine Aulenbach wished she had more time to work with Sachs and praised her for "being controversial and saying what is on your mind."
Board Member Al Matos expressed, "I respect you for your heart and kindness, and have enjoyed working with you for the past seven years."
Randolph offered congratulations and thanks to Mrs. Sachs for her service to both the Board and school district, and wishes her well as she begins her next chapter.
