RANDOLPH, NJ- The Historical Society of Old Randolph (HSOR) is pleased to announce that Mr. Stanley Schoonmaker will be the first speaker of the season in its special series of programs entitled “Randolph Reminisces.”
The public is invited to attend this free program on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Randolph Museum. The museum is located in the historic Brundage House at the main entrance to Randolph’s Freedom Park on Millbrook Avenue. Light refreshments will be served.
Mr. Schoonmaker will be providing a digital presentation with vintage images that will include places that Randolph residents would know from “way back when” including the Baker Theatre, Dover High School, the Dover trolleys and downtown Dover businesses.
Did you know that Randolph children went to Dover High School before Randolph High School was built in the 1960s? Mr. Schoonmaker’s presentation will include sights of yesteryear that are no longer extant.
Mr. Schoonmaker served as a social studies teacher, guidance counselor, driver’s education teacher and assistant to the superintendent in the Dover school system before retiring in 1994. He and Mr. George Laurie co-authored the Arcadia book entitled Images of America Book, DOVER in 1999. In 2013, he was honored at St. Francis’ Residential Community as “A Living Treasure.” Mr. Schoonmaker also served as the vice president of the Dover Historical Society and was instrumental in securing property for the Dover History Museum House. He was also appointed by Dover’s mayor to be vice chairman of the Dover Historic Preservation Committee, a committee which oversees potential development projects in the historic district to preserve the historical landmarks of Dover. He was a 10-year member of Dover’s drum and bugle corps, the Dover Cadets, and was also a member of the 1948 state champion Dover Tigers football team. His commitment to Dover has led to several awards and the North Dover School Library was named in his honor.
