RANDOLPH, NJ- Randolph Rams girls soccer player Katja Brackelmanns-Puig has earned the TAP Athlete of the Week after scoring two crucial goals in her teams past two matches.  She recorded the game winning goal in both, a 1-0 win over Livingston, and a 2-1 victory over Ridgewood.

The most impressive part, is that Brackelmanns-Puig scored the lone goal against Livingston to send the Lady Rams to the semi-final of the State Tournament, where she then scored a stunning goal late in the game to propel the Rams into the Championship game.

The first thing Brackelmanns-Puig made clear was that none of her success this season would have been possible without the help of her teammates, as she stated, “I wouldn’t define my success in any other way but a team effort,” said Brackelmanns-Puig. “I can’t score without the amazing passes they make to me, and I wouldn’t have the passion I do without the trust we hold within our team to always give it our all.”

Brackelmanns-Puig continued, “Our team is at the peak of our play right now, and it couldn’t be better timing.”

Senior Hanna Stepan had high praise for how Brackelmanns-Puig performs game in and game out. “She is the best teammate, she is always working hard and pushing everyone around her to be better,” Stepan said. “Her work ethic is so amazing and she is always determined to find success any way she can.”

Over her high school career, Brackelmanns-Puig has enjoyed the good memories and the learning process from playing soccer. “Now I can clearly see that each time I’m on the field I have to cherish the moments I have left playing with my favorite people,” Brackelmanns-Puig said.

Brackelmanns-Puig added, “I feel extremely grateful that I could share the wins and losses with these girls, because when the ball hits the back of the net, it doesn’t matter who put it there, all you really remember is the feeling of complete happiness and gratitude for your teammates.”

Brackelmanns-Puig plans to continue her soccer career over the next four years in college.  She is waiting for her acceptance letters from a few different colleges, and then she will be making her decision. However, she looks forward to ending this season right by winning the state championship with the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams play for the championship on Friday the 14th against Montclair at 2:00 at Randolph High School.
