MADISON, NJ - Dodgeball with a twist... and all for a great cause.
Teams competed Saturday afternoon at Drew University's Baldwin Gym to honor the late Madison Police Captain Joseph Cirella in a first annual "Prison Ball" Tournament.
Captain Cirella passed away on December 22, 2015 after a three-month battle with cancer. Captain Cirella was on the Madison Police Department for 25 years and is remembered as 'a great cop, a mentor, a devoted father and husband, and a great friend.' Captain Cirella is survived by his wife and three children.
The day of the event roughly $2500 was raised. All proceeds will benefit the Joseph Cirella Scholarship Fund
Madison businesses donated silent auction items for the event including, Hollenbach Family Chiropractic, Adams Dental, Madison Area YMCA, Park Avenue Club, Morris Animal Inn, Cleaners Advantage and Healthy Italia.
"This was a great event and I know Captain Cirella was looking down and laughing.I want to thank Drew University for hosting the event along with the Madison PBA Local #92, the Madison Downtown Development Commission, along with the Madison Chamber Of Commerce and Whole Foods Market," said Madison Police Chief Dachisen.
