RANDOLPH, NJ- On Saturday July 28, the Randolph 8U All-Star Baseball Team played for the Par-Troy East League Championship against Morristown American. Randolph ran out to a 9-0 lead, and had to fight off a furious rally before holding on to win the championship by the score of 9-6.
Nick Kment pitched into the 4th inning before giving up a run, and then gave way to Ethan Shire who came in to finish the inning. Marco Nobile then closed out the game by tossing two innings of 1-run ball to secure the win.
Offensively, Dillon Hines led the way going 2-for-2, with a walk and two RBI’s. Caden Milano also added two hits and two RBI's. Chase Torres also knocked in two runs, while Kment, Austin Ruane and Ryan Tedesco all added an RBI in the win.
Pitching and defense were the keys to the game. The play of the game occurred in the last inning, the bottom of the 6th. With runners on first and second, Morristown American hit a ball deep into the outfield. Connor Novak threw to 2nd base, and the relay to the plate reached catcher Caden Milano who applied the tag at the plate for the first out.
Following a strike-out from pitcher Marco Nobile for the 2nd out, Morristown American hit a hard ground ball with the bases loaded which was knocked down by SS Austin Ruane who picked it up and threw to 3B for the final out of the game and the celebration began!
Randolph continued to improve as the all-star season rolled on. Starting at 2-2 their first four games, they rattled off eight straight wins culminating in the Championship win against Morristown American.
The 8U All Stars were managed by Pete Torres along with assistant coaches Mike Kment, Matt Milano and Paul Bachrach.
