RANDOLPH, NJ- On March 12, the Randolph Athletic Council (RAC) hosted its 5th Annual St. Paddy’s Dodge Ball Tournament.
The RAC, who identify themselves as “a consolidated voice for all high school sports programs and student-athletes” host this event every year to raise money for renovations of current sports facilities and additions. Events they have contributed to include the Annual Athletic Awards Night and the establishment of the Randolph High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
According to RAM RAC board member and this year’s coordinator, Maria Olsakowski, the event starts out in the auxiliary gym with 26-32 teams playing in a round robin. Towards the end, the teams begin to eliminate each other until the final team emerges victorious in the main gym.
This year’s winners recieved the reward of donating $200 to a charity of their choice and to get their name written on a banner in the gym. Members of the winning team were Nic Ferragine, Stu Backer, Marty Siegel, Andrew Hafner, Peter Hubert, Jake Barbiere, Tyler Maietta, Brandon Lopez
Their team name was The Baseball Team.
Gym teacher and wrestling coach, Michael Suk, says of the event, “It really turns into the event of the year. Everyone really gets into it.” According to Olsakowski, Suk played an instrumental role in the preparation for the event.
Melissa Downes, Randolph High School junior, says, “I think it was a great experience for everyone and it was great to see teams working together. I’m excited for next year.”
