RANDOLPH, NJ - The eighth-seeded Randolph Rams boys soccer team defeated the ninth-seeded Bloomfield Bengals in the the first round of the NJSIAA state tournament by a score of 2-0 on Monday.
A fast start for the Rams rewarded them with an early goal from Junior Mateo Panizza. Minutes before half, the Bengals came close when a shot from a breakaway smacked off the post and went out of play. In the second half, the Rams continued to dominate and their efforts paid off with a goal from Nick Shetzline to secure the win.
Goalie Evan Miele made eight saves in the victory.
The Rams will play again on Thursday against the top seed, Kearny.
