RANDOLPH, NJ- The Randolph girls soccer team moved their record up to an impressive 5-0-1 by taking down Chatham, ranked No. 20 in the state, on Thursday Sept. 19 by the score of 2-0.  With the victory, Randolph locked up the No. 1 Seed in the Morris County Tournament, relegating Chatham to No. 2.

Senior Lauren Robles notched both Rams goals, and senior goaltender Ellie Sciancalepore earned her third shutout of the season to lead the Lady Rams to victory.

“Chatham is a great team and has a lot of strong competitors, but it feels nice to win a big game within our conference and have some momentum going into Counties,” said Sciancalepore.  “Games like these we love to play in, because they push us to be stronger, tougher and better than we were last game.”

Fifteen minutes into the game, Robles scored on a strong individual play, beating two defenders and launching a shot into the net to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes into the second, Robles struck again.  This time, Karen Hull moved the ball across midfield, and hit Robles with a pass that allowed her to use her speed to get off another great shot.  This one also found the back of the net for a 2-0 Lady Rams lead.

With Sciancalepore playing well in goal, ( 6 saves ) and her senior loaded defense building a strong wall in front of her, the Rams kept the Cougars at bay the rest of the way to earn the 2-0 win.

“After the game Coach reminded us that we had worked extremely hard for this, and she wanted us to understand how good it feels to see our hard work pay off,” said Sciancalepore. “She also mentioned that we have an important week packed with good competition coming up.”

Randolph plays next on Tuesday Sept 24, away against Morris Knolls.
